IE7 Constantly Crashing?

Both a friend and I started having the exact same problem a few weeks ago, IE7 would crash, restart, crash, restart and…. guess what…. wait for it…. wait for it…. yup it would crash again! How did you know that?

I don’t use IE frequently so I decided to ignore it for a few weeks. Unfortunately I did need to use IE this weekend to test some things, so I looked into fixing the problem which occurs because IE becomes “unstable” (maybe it forgot to take it’s meds). The solutions I found are annoying, you can uninstall and reinstall OR return IE7 back to its default settings.

I immediately reset the browser to it’s default settings and the problem was solved. Since I never use IE7, and haven’t even changed a single setting since I got the browser I had no problem doing a reset. I feel bad, however, for people who actually use this as their main browser and lose pop-up blocking setting, security setting, accessibility settings etc. At least you don’t loose you bookmarks if you are able to just reset the browser though. So try the directions below first if you experience the same problem.

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab. (If IE7 won’t even open without crashing, right-click on your IE7 desktop icon and select Properties. Then click the Advanced tab.)
  3. Click the Reset… button.
  4. Click Reset.
  5. Close and reopen your browser when prompted.

If these don’t work and you are still having a problem uninstall the browser and either reinstall it, or consider getting Firefox.

My Newest Project

Looking for words to describe myself I referred to a recent personality test I took for my job. According to my Hogan Personality Inventory am very well socialized (79%), well adjusted (84%), prudent (92%), mischievous (94%) and hedonistic (89%)… and that’s pretty accurate, so lets go with those words.

Professionally I am a Multimedia Developer in Pittsburgh, PA. At work I focus on Flash Programming, mostly we building e-learning tools and simulations. Outside of work I’m interested in developing web sites where I get to try out new ideas, tools and applications.

Additionally, I live on Mt. Washington with my bunny, Sneaky Pete, who is a black and white mini-lop. We like hosting picnics for the firework nights, gardening and hanging out on the deck. I also enjoy running, rowing with the work team, golfing with the ladies league and bumming around town for happy hours, parties, art openings, plays, the symphony and baseball games.

This blog is my newest project as I explore producing content for the web and social networking. I became interested in producing content because I found myself finding answers to my development problems on other peoples blogs. I thought that some of the stuff I learn through my own work might also help people out…. so lets see! If you read anything here that helps you let me know and I’ll know the effort is worth it.

After some research I decided to start social networking with Twitter and Ma.gnolia. Twitter answers the question “What are doing?” Although this did not attract me at first, the idea eventually grew on me. It’s simple, it’s fun and it fills my friends and family in on what I’m up to during the day. All the little things that don’t really matter… but in a way they do.

Ma.gnolia was something I was instantly attracted to because I share links with friends and family all the time and Ma.gnolia lets me share those links with everyone, categorize them with tags and access them from any computer. Plus it was programmed by Happy Cog and has a fun loving, easy to use interface that could have only come from them.
